Frequently asked questions
Answers about JSON-LD, schema markup, rich results, AI answer engines and how Schema Forge handles your pages.
What is Schema Forge?
Schema Forge is a free tool that reads a public web page and generates JSON-LD structured data for nine types: FAQPage, Product, LocalBusiness, Article, Organization, BreadcrumbList, Event, Recipe and VideoObject.
Is it free?
Yes. There is no account and no paid tier. Requests are limited to 30 a minute for each IP address to keep the service available for everyone.
Where do I paste the generated markup?
Paste the whole script tag into the head of the page, or just before the closing body tag. It can sit anywhere in the HTML.
Can I install Schema Forge as an app?
Yes. In Chrome, Edge and Safari you can install it from the browser menu or the Install app button. It then opens in its own window, and pages you have visited still load without a connection.
Why did it find nothing on my page?
The most common cause is a page that builds its content with JavaScript, because Schema Forge reads only the HTML the server sends. Check the page with View Source. If the text is not there, it cannot be read unless the server has JavaScript rendering enabled.
What is JSON-LD?
JSON-LD is a way to write schema.org structured data as a JSON object inside a script tag. Google recommends it over microdata and RDFa.
Will adding schema markup improve my rankings?
Not directly. Google says structured data is not a ranking factor. It helps search engines understand the page and can make it eligible for rich results.
Why is FAQ markup not producing rich results for me?
Since 2023 Google shows FAQ rich results only for well-known government and health websites. The markup remains valid and still describes your content to other search engines and AI systems.
How does structured data relate to answer engine optimization?
Answer engines and AI assistants favour pages that state clear answers in plain text. Schema markup gives them an unambiguous, machine-readable copy of the same facts. It supports good content and does not replace it.
Does it check schema my page already has?
Yes. It lists the types it finds and checks each against the properties Google documents, such as an offer with no currency or an event with no location, and reports errors and notes.
Can I edit the markup before I copy it?
Yes. When the page left something out, such as a price or an author, a form appears under the code. Type the value and the markup updates. Only add facts that are true and visible on the page.
Can I check a whole site?
Yes. The site scan reads a sitemap and checks up to 10 pages on the same site, then lets you export the results as a CSV file.
How do page alerts work?
Choose a page and your browser subscribes to push notifications. The page is re-checked about once a day and you are notified when its structured data is added, removed, broken or fixed. Set them up on the alerts page. No account or email is needed.
Does Schema Forge store the pages I check?
No. The page is fetched, analysed in memory and the result is returned to you. The only exception is page alerts: if you turn one on, the page address and a short summary of its structured data are kept so it can be re-checked. See the privacy page for details.
Can I call it from my own tool?
Yes. The JSON API returns the same analysis, plus a compact endpoint that lists which schema types a page is missing.
No question matches that. Try fewer words.
